An early start

Article text
With a forecast of frost and clear skies, it was a morning to head for the hills, Pen Y Fan to be specific. The forecast was not quite accurate (once more) and there was a fair bit of cloud, but that just made the sky a little more interesting. I arrived at the top around 7.50am to find it like Piccadilly Circus - there were at least 4 other guys present - I'm used to having the place to myself at dawn. A break in the cloud allowed the sun to shine for about 1 hour and that was it, but it was enough. A light dusting of snow lay on the ground and although it is not evident in the image shown, the wind was howling like a banshee, making for a pretty chilly morning, but it's a magical place to be at dawn and I hope to be back there several times over the winter months.
